Chelsea Football Club have been named the European Football Club of the year in the European Club Association’s annual awards.

The London club received the award after winning the Champions League despite a 6th position in the English Premier League. The European champions overcame a resilient Napoli side when they were at the brink of being eliminated and went on to beat Barcelona and Benfica to reach the final at the Allianz Arena, where they won against the Bavarian giants on penalties and lifted the trophy for the first time in their history
